Sengguruh Dam, located in Sengguruh Village, Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, East Java, functions as important water resource management infrastructure for agricultural irrigation and water supply for industries, including drinking water. The dam collects water from several rivers, mainly the Brantas River and the Lesti River, which causes it to receive various types of waste from communities that dispose of garbage into the rivers, as well as heavy sediment such as mud and soil. Due to this condition, regular dredging and flushing are carried out to prevent a continuous decrease in the reservoir’s storage capacity. Managed by Perum Jasa Tirta I, Sengguruh Dam covers an area of approximately 237 hectares and plays a vital role in regulating water availability in the region.
Although it is not the largest dam, Sengguruh Dam has a crucial role in controlling sediment in the upper Brantas River system and acts as a supporting dam for Sutami Dam, the largest dam in the Malang area. By trapping sediment upstream, Sengguruh Dam helps protect Sutami Dam from rapid sedimentation. In addition to its technical functions, Sengguruh Dam is also used as an educational and recreational site, frequently visited by the public for learning activities, relaxation, and photography due to its scenic views. The water stored in Sengguruh Dam is also utilized for hydroelectric power generation, supplying electricity to support the dam system and contributing to the overall Brantas River system.
On the 10th, I visited Sengguruh Dam, which is located in Malang Regency, East Java. I went there with curiosity about the condition and function of the dam. When I arrived, I felt interested in observing the environment around it. Sengguruh Dam looked large and important as a water control structure and a hydroelectric power plant. This visit became a meaningful experience for me.
When I arrived at the dam, I saw that the water was filled with a lot of trash. At first, I wondered why there was so much waste in the dam. After observing more carefully, I realized that the water came from several rivers. Many of those rivers were dirty and carried trash into the dam. This situation showed how river pollution affected the dam and its function.
I also observed the structure of Sengguruh Dam and its hydroelectric power plant. The dam gates were very tall and painted blue. There were two large gates that functioned as water channels. The flowing water from the gates was used to produce electricity. The strong structure impressed me.
At the end of the visit, I felt happy because I could see Sengguruh Dam and its functions directly. I learned many new things about the dam and how it works as a hydroelectric power plant. I also enjoyed the natural beauty around the dam area. The scenery made the visit more enjoyable and memorable. Overall, the visit gave me a lot of knowledge and a valuable experience.
